Overview

Study program Architecture

The Department of Architecture and Urbanism at the Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad, has a modern and open curriculum combining theory and practice, with local influences and global trends. The field of architecture at the Department is observed as a transdisciplinary field, with dominant influences of art and technology in the contemporary social context.

From the academic year 2005/2006, the studies were optimized with the Bologna Declaration, so that now all courses are one-semester long, and the study is organized according to the model 4 + 1 + 3. The study programs at the Department of Architecture and Urbanism were accredited in 2007 as first in the field of architecture in Serbia.

The main objective of the study program is to educate experts who have sufficient, consistent and usable knowledge in the field of architecture and urbanism that can be applied in practice and constantly developed. The curriculum envisages diverse courses – from fundamental disciplines, through architectural and urban design, landscape architecture, interior architecture and design, preservation of architectural heritage, to courses dealing with more specific topics.

Within the Department of Architecture and Urbanism, classes are conducted at all three academic degree cycles.

Bachelor academic studies last for four years and are worth 240 ECTS. After defending their Bachelor’s thesis, the students obtain the qualification of a Bachelor in architecture. The students acquire competencies that enable them to use professional literature, the ability to think critically, the ability to analyse problems, synthesize solutions and solve real problems they encounter in practice, as well as the ability to continue their education if they choose to do so.

Master academic studies provide students with further training in six elective areas – modules:

Interior design

Energy efficiency in architectural structures

Digital design and fabrication

Architectural visualization and simulations

Students acquire competencies and academic skills, which include creative skills and critical thinking, developing teamwork competencies and mastering specific practical skills needed to perform the profession independently. After the tenth semester and the defended master’s thesis, a master’s degree in architecture is obtained.

Doctoral academic studies last for three years. Students acquire competencies for high quality and independent scientific research, critical evaluation of others and the ability to conduct original scientific research that enables the development of new technologies and contributes to the general development of the society.
