Sub-department for Arts and Design

THE SUB-DEPARTMENT OF ARTS AND DESIGN is an organizational unit of the Department of Architecture and Urbanism, Faculty of Technical Sciences, University of Novi Sad.

It consists of two chairs: Chair for Scene Design and Chair for Arts.

The department was established in 2017, in order to take over the realization of all study programmes in the field of scene design (undergraduate, master and doctoral studies) at FTN. The sub-department also includes SCen – Centre for Scene Design, Architecture and Technology, which is also the national centre of the international association OISTAT for Serbia. The task of the centre, in cooperation with other educational institutions, cultural institutions, as well as social communities, is to develop professional and public activities in the field of scene architecture, technique and design.

What are possible study programmes?

At the Sub-department for Arts and Design, from 2020, it is possible to attend undergraduate academic studies of Scene Architecture, Technique and Design, which are unique in the country and the region in terms of their curriculum as a blend of engineering sciences and arts. After completing the undergraduate studies, students have the opportunity to enrol in one-year Master studies in two study programmes: Scene Architecture and Technology, and Scene Architecture and Design. The study programme Scene Architecture and Technology is intended for students who would like to focus on the engineering aspects of scene design, while the study programme Scene Architecture and Design is intended for students who see their professional path in the field of scene design as art. Doctoral academic studies in Scene Design last for three years, are realized in the field of art and are intended for everyone who would like to engage in artistic or theoretical research of the highest rank in the field of scene design.

Undergraduate academic studies

SCENE ARCHITECTURE, TECHNIQUE AND DESIGN

The studies are a merger of architecture, performing arts and visual arts. During the studies, it is possible to focus on scene architecture and technology and/or scene design and technique. The studies last for four years (8 semesters), during which students obtain 240 ECTS and the academic title of Bachelor of Science in Scene Architecture, Technique and Design.

Master Academic Studies

SCENE ARCHITECTURE AND DESIGN

Studies represent a merger of different arts in the interdisciplinary field of scene design. During their studies, students are led towards artistic practices of scene design and/or towards the design for scene space and stage events. The studies last for one year (2 semesters), during which students obtain 60 ECTS and the academic title Master of Art in Scene Design.

Doctoral academic studies

SCENE DESIGN

Studies represent an academic framework for studying the artistic practices of scene design, systematized through three key branches – Scene Design in Theatre, Design of Out-of-Theatre Spectacle, and Scene Design as Multimedia Art. Special attention is dedicated to theoretical research and critical work in the field of scene design. The studies last for three years (6 semesters), during which students obtain 180 ECTS and the academic title of PhD in Art – Scene Design.
